This is Focal, the upright furniture design that's trying to reinvent the office chair and put an end to "sitting disease" — the chronic aches and back injuries you can suffer while toiling away in a cubicle on a normal office chair.
Here's what it feels like, according to Kelsey Campbell-Dollaghan at Fast Company:
Sitting in it doesn’t quite feel like anything else: You’re definitely not standing, but you do get the sense that you’re moving around, at least a little bit. The combination encourages a “natural, neutral posture,” explains Keen. “There is a place between standing and sitting where our body wants to be.”
The limited edition seats and desks will cost you $500 and $950, respectively. After they run out, the prices rise to $650 and $1,150.
That's a good chunk of cash. Plus, there's not much cool factor to be found in a piece of furniture that makes you look a bit awkward.
Still, it's good to see innovators out there trying new things to change the typical office workstation, which can be detrimental to your health.
